Cookie Policy

This policy explains which cookies HOA Grove uses, what each one does, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal information more broadly.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. On a later visit the browser sends it back, which lets the site recognize your session, remember a preference, or count a visit. Some cookies are set by the site you are visiting (“first-party”) and some by another service embedded in the page (“third-party”).

This website sets no cookies

hoagrove.com — the site you are reading now — does not set any cookies. It is a set of static pages with no analytics, no advertising tags, no tracking pixels and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to. We load a web font from Google Fonts, which does not set cookies.

Cookies in the HOA Grove application

The application at app.hoagrove.com, where communities and residents sign in, does use cookies. They fall into four groups:

Strictly necessary

These make signing in and staying signed in possible. The application does not work without them, and they cannot be switched off from within the app.

  • _my_hoa_session — keeps you signed in as you move between pages, and carries the token that protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Set by HOA Grove. Expires when you close your browser.
  • remember_user_token — keeps you signed in between visits. Set by HOA Grove, and only if you sign in with a password and tick “remember me”. Most residents sign in with a magic link instead and never receive this cookie.

Security

  • _GRECAPTCHA — set by Google reCAPTCHA on our free-trial signup form, to tell real people from automated signups. Set by Google, only on that page.

Payments

  • __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid — set by Stripe on pages where a payment is taken, for fraud prevention. Stripe processes card and bank payments on our behalf; card details are entered directly into Stripe and are never stored by HOA Grove.

Analytics

  • _ga and _ga_<id> — set by Google Analytics, so we can see which parts of the application are used and where people get stuck. These tell us about usage patterns, not about individuals, and we do not use them for advertising.

How to control cookies

Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, and block future ones — usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking all cookies will stop you being able to sign in to app.hoagrove.com, because the session cookie is what keeps you signed in.

To opt out of Google Analytics specifically without affecting sign-in, Google publishes a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to it, and at this time we do not respond to it.

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a cookie, we will update this page. Because the list above names each cookie individually rather than describing categories in the abstract, it should always be possible to check it against what your browser has actually stored.
